  • salt1 teaspoon salt
  • sugar1 teaspoon sugar
  • vegan butter1 cup vegan butter, cold and cubed
  • ice water4-5 tablespoons ice water
  • apples6-7 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • sugar3/4 cup sugar
  • all-purpose flour2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • cinnamon1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • nutmeg1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • lemon juice1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • vegan butter2 tablespoons vegan butter, cubed

Instructions

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar. Add the cold, cubed vegan butter and mix until crumbly.
  3. Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough just comes together. Divide the dough in half and shape into discs. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  4. In another bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are well coated.
  5. Roll out one disc of dough to fit your pie dish. Transfer the dough to the dish and trim the excess. Fill with the apple mixture and dot with the cubed vegan butter.
  6. Roll out the second disc of dough and place over the filling. Trim, seal, and flute the edges. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly. Allow to cool before serving.
